Norwegian Cruise Line is offering new Alaska shore excursions this year that allow passengers to ride in a high-speed jet boat, see dramatic views of glaciers aboard a floatplane and take in the Yukon. NCL also offers Freestyle Private Touring via boat, chauffer-driven Hummer, rugged luxury SUV, a classic floatplane or an Alaskan skiff.
NCL now offers a total of 160 Alaska excursions in 2008. Guests can depart from Seattle, Wash., or Vancouver, B.C. from April through September on one of three Freestyle Cruising ships — Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Star or Norwegian Sun.
NCL’s Freestyle Private Touring in Juneau includes a “Wild Coast Exploration by Private Boat,” in which a private, expedition-style catamaran explores fjords and rugged coasts. The “Chauffeur-Driven Hummer” tour allows passengers to experience Juneau on their own terms and schedule. A la carte options include glacier-view sea kayaking, a visit to the Shrine of St. Therese, patroness of Alaska, and a gold mining and panning tour to Last Chance Basin.
In Ketchikan, Freestyle Private Touring includes an Alaskan skiff outing that offers guests the chance to fish, scout for wildlife, or hike the rainforest. During the “Classic Floatplane” excursion, guests can enjoy two-way communication with the pilot while flying over Misty Fjords National Monument. “An Alaskan Chef’s Table” features a personal chef serving a five-course tasting menu with items such as hot and cold smoked salmon, spot prawns, king and dungeness crab, saffron-infused bouillabaisse, halibut, salmon and dessert.
NCL’s new shore excursions include “Rainforest Garden & City Attractions” in Juneau; “City Highlights, Totems & Creek Street” in Ketchikan; “The Bering Sea Crab Fisherman’s Tour” and the “Back Country Jet Boat & Totem Adventure.” In Prince Rupert, B.C., new excursions include “Canada’s Wilderness via Floatplane” and “Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Viewing.”
In Skagway, new offerings include a “Golden Glassblowing Experience” at the Northern Show Garden and a visit to the Hot Shop; “Suspension Bridge, White Pass Railway and Scenic Klondike Highway” and the White Pass Railway & Alpine Snow Shoe Hike. In Victoria, B.C., new shore excursions include “Gourmet Picnic & Fireworks at Butchart Gardens” and a “Twilight Snorkeling Adventure.” All Alaska shore excursions are currently available for pre-reservation.
