Royal Caribbean International has announced inaugural itineraries for its massive 220,000-ton Oasis of the Seas. When Oasis enters service in late 2009, it will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. The inaugural voyage is scheduled to depart Dec. 12, 2009 from its homeport at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Bookings will open Sept. 3.

The ship will start out with 19 seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailings to St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Nassau. Starting May 1, 2010, Oasis of the Seas will alternate its Eastern Caribbean itinerary with a Western Caribbean route to Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s private beach destination in Haiti; the new port of Falmouth, Jamaica; and Cozumel, Mexico.

Royal Caribbean has been working closely with the ports to ensure the guest experience is seamless when the ship visits. The cruise line and St. Maarten will enhance the guest welcome facilities, while Cozumel’s pier will be widened. Approaches to the docks at St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Nassau will also be dredged. Royal Caribbean is working with the Port Authority of Jamaica to complete the new Falmouth Cruise Pier by March 2010, as well as establish the associated infrastructure necessary to welcome cruise guests.

A historically important 18th century settlement, Falmouth was a colonial center of Jamaica’s sugar and rum industry. The town’s history and Georgian architecture has most recently drawn the attention of Prince Charles, a long-time supporter of restoring historic buildings. The ship will be docked in all of its ports.

Royal Caribbean also is working with the government of Haiti to construct a pier at Labadee. Additional plans are under way to expand guest offerings with an alpine coaster and fast-boat tours, among others, to complement Labadee’s Dragon’s Breath Flight Line, which has proven to be one of the destination’s most popular attractions.

When launched in late 2009, Oasis of the Seas will be the largest cruise ship in the world with 16 decks and 2,700 staterooms that will accommodate 5,400 guests double occupancy or roughly 6,300 when all berths are filled. Oasis of the Seas will feature a neighborhood concept of seven themed areas, including Central Park, Boardwalk and the Royal Promenade
