The MSC Splendida celebrated its floating out ceremony Sunday at the Aker Yards in St. Nazaire, France. The MSC Splendida and sister ship MSC Fantasia are the two largest ships to be built by a European ship owner. Both will be 133,500 tons.

Each will have 1,637 cabins able to accommodate 3,274 passengers (on a double basis), as well as 290,000 square feet of public areas, including a theatre with seating for 1,649, and the 17,384-square-foot Aurea Spa. Each ship also will offer four restaurants, two buffet areas, four pools, 12 hydro massage pools, a sports bar, a jazz bar, shops, a casino, a disco, a Formula 1 simulator, a 4D interactive cinema, a squash court and a 4,305-square-foot children’s and teenager’s area with a pool, a waterslide and a dedicated teenagers’ disco.

The two ships will introduce the MSC Yacht Club, a VIP area with 99 suites, dedicated butlers and communal spaces. While the countdown to MSC Fantasia’s launch has already started (the christening will take place in Naples Dec.18), the MSC Splendida will be christened in Barcelona next summer
