Silversea Luxury Cruises – Grand Pacific Voyage to Feature McCourt

Silversea Cruises announced a lineup of authors, journalists, historians, commentators, actor-dramatists, filmmakers, an astronaut, marine biologist and more guests for the Silver Shadow’s 92-day “Grand Pacific Voyage,” sailing March 7 to June 7. Departing from Los Angeles, the “Grand Pacific Voyage” will visit 45 ports in 15 countries, including overnight stays in Bora Bora, Sydney, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The 16-day “Enchanted Polynesia” segment, which departs March 7 from Los Angeles to Papeete, will feature Frank McCourt, author of Pulitzer Prize-winning “Angela’s Ashes.” Also on that cruise will be astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan, the first American woman to walk in space and a veteran of three shuttle missions, and George Losey, an expert in South Pacific history, culture and marine life and emeritus professor of zoology and marine biology at the University of Hawaii.

The 18-day “Escape to Dreamland” cruise, which departs March 23 from Papeete to Sydney, will feature Scott Pearson, a Harvard doctor of economics who has spent over four decades studying economic change in developing countries. Also onboard will be David O. Frazier and Joe Garry, actors who created 15 original scripts and performed in theaters from New York to Budapest to Bombay. Their television show, “Odysseys and Ovations,” a travel and history series, appears on PBS in the U.S. The 18-day segment departing April 11 from Sydney to Singapore will host Bradley Trevor Greive, one of Australia’s most successful authors, and Geoffrey Blainey authored of 30 books and chair of economic history and then the Ernest Scott Chair of History at the University of Melbourne. Also scheduled is Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, a member of the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland and is also an officer of arms to the Queen, and Michael O’Brien, a retired major general in the Australian Defense Force and an expert on the Pacific region and its history. The 16-day segment departing April 29 from Singapore to Tokyo will feature Elizabeth Kiritani, a Tokyo television personality, and John Hartley, a retired Australian major general who served twice in Vietnam. The 14-day segment from Tokyo to Seward departing May 15 is scheduled to host Jon Bowermastera, adventurer who explores the world by kayak, and Stephen Dachi, a foreign policy specialist who served in the U.S. Foreign Service for 30 years. The final segment, departing May 28, is a 10-day voyage from Seward to Vancouver. Guests will include Niki Sepsas, an author and magazine writer who is a contributing author to “Chicken Soup for the Soul.”
